Stafford County Towers to be Marketed to Telecom Companies

The Board of Supervisors in Stafford County, Virginia, recently agreed to allow Milestone Communications market the county-owned sites to telecom companies for cell tower sites. A preliminary list included 50 county-owned sites, which included some water towers. Milestone Communications would look for carriers interested in co-locating on towers on these potential sites. The county estimated that if they leased five sites with three carriers on each tower, they would net $2.8 million over 15 years. The company will have to gain approval from the Board of Supervisors, after a public hearing, before a tower could be placed on each site. Once approved, Milestone Communications could construct a 100-to-150-foot tower and lease the space for up to four carriers.
