Time to Reconsider Anti-Cell Tower Views

If you have been in the tower industry for even the smallest amount of time, you have seen the articles entitled “Parents Oppose Tower at School” or “Towers at Schools Should be Denied.” The concern here may be real, but the alternative to a lack of wireless infrastructure at schools may be deadly. USA Today compiled a piece entitled “Behind the Bloodshed: Mass Killings Happen About Every Two Weeks.” While this is a terrifying statistic, the article reported that the FBI counted 172 cases of mass killings between 2006 and 2011. Everyone can agree that these incidents are tragic, terrifying, and heartbreaking, but there may be a way to reduce the harm done in these situations. By focusing on the benefits that cell towers and their wireless networks offer, it’s easy to see how this technology could help during times of crisis. If an armed student enters a school and starts shooting, injuries and fatalities are the last things anyone wants to happen. If the networks become congested because everyone is frantically trying to call 9-1-1 or other outsiders for help, there could potentially be more victims. With a reliable wireless infrastructure, including coverage with excellent penetration throughout the entire school and more than one carrier on the tower, emergency officials can be reached quicker and anyone about to unknowingly enter a dangerous building could be forewarned. If something were to occur at your child’s school, wouldn’t you rather give them the ability to call for help or get in touch with you to let you know they’re okay rather than vehemently opposing the construction of a cell tower on nearby property?
