AT&T The Choice of the (Town of) Century

The Town of Century, FL has been a Verizon customer for over ten years, but as NorthEscambia.com reports, a move to AT&T is underway. The town has expressed both its dissatisfaction with its current Verizon service, and the appeal of being part of the AT&T FirstNet network.

“At the present time, Verizon’s signal is inadequate and it is often difficult to reach our employees in the field or inside the maintenance hop,” said Mayor Ben Boutwell. “Verizon has advised… they do not plan to add additional cell signals in our area.”

The new arrangement with AT&T and the town will include a system of 12 mobile hotspots. Costs are estimated at $35 per month for unlimited data. The deal includes 17 smartphone models, primarily iPhone 12 devices, for use by city employees. When all costs and rebates are tallied up, the Town of Century should be ahead by over $3,000 per month, according to NorthEscambia.com. The agreement with AT&T will be set up as a month-to-month agreement with no cancellation fees.

Upon learning of the upgrade, council member James Smith was surprised to learn that many of the phones in the Verizon network were outdated. “We’ve still got flip phones?” he asked. “That’s scary.”
