Bird Effigies as Deterrents For Vultures?

Bird Deterrent Technologies LLC (BDT) announced the completion of field testing and national rollout of their signature product: ‘The Vulture Decoy.’  According to the company, the effigies have proven to be a “highly cost-effective solution for cellular tower owners dealing with the persistent problem of birds roosting overnight.” They point to several studies showing roosts declining by 90-to-100 percent within a week of an effigy being deployed.

“Birds get agitated, confused and quickly migrate to another property that present a less threatening sight picture,” said Russell Adams, Founder & Managing Partner of Bird Deterrent Technologies LLC. “While sounding simplistic, these agitated and confused emotions are easily transferred bird-to-bird exponentially creating confusion among the approaching flock,” he said.  Adams says Duke Energy and Skyway Towers are among his customers that have successfully deployed the effigies.

“Consider the damage and health risks presented by having all of these birds roosting on a cell tower,” Adams said “and then factor in the continued maintenance and cell phone upgrades that are required by cell phone service-providers.  Every now and then, a product comes along that just works. It may not be fancy or glamorous or high-tech, but it is extremely effective.”
