The officials of Calabasas, California, have amended the city’s wireless ordinance that will make for easier approval, complying with the FCC mandate that requires local governments to upgrade antennas without delays. The city’s existing regulations stipulate that all new facilities must be at least 1,000 feet from homes, schools, or parks, and that residents within a 1,500-foot radius of a proposed tower are notified 30 days before a public hearing. The new amended, approved last week, permits requests to modify existing facilities will only be subject to administrative review and decision, no public hearing will be required. At the March 11 meeting, fees for minor modification permits on wireless facilities was approved, requiring $1,935 be paid to update equipment. This include includes the base cost for a plan review and a processing fee. Not included is the consultant fee plus 15 percent, an established charge.
