Wood County Commission gave its approval to move forward with a tower feasibility study for the Belleville area, reported the Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

Officials are planning to build a 340-foot tower with $420,000 it received through the Public Service Commission’s Tower Assistance Fund to expand cell service. The county will retain ownership of the tower, but any carrier that wants to co-locate on the tower would have to negotiate with Chemours, who owns the land the tower will sit on, officials said.

Curtis Paxton from Mead & Hunt of Charleston appeared before the commission to review the feasibility project and negotiate a final price for the study.

Wood County 911 Director Rick Woodyard said of Mead & Hunt, “They have done just about every tower the state of West Virginia has constructed [and have] done all of the geosurveys and environmental studies.”

Paxton noted that since a survey had already been completed for the site, deliverables would include construction drawings — including the grounding, electrical, and fencing for the tower site — plus the technical investigation for the foundation design and environmental studies. Paxton presented a proposal for $20,675 to complete this portion of the project, reported the News and Sentinel.

The Wood County Commission unanimously approved the proposal from Mead & Hunt and officials said the work should begin immediately.
