A&T and Mobilitie say they’ve upgraded the DAS at Churchill Downs to boost AT&T’s wireless network coverage for tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby and the associated events for the entire weekend. Recent upgrades add 20 percent more LTE capacity to the existing wireless network. This is the fifth year the companies have teamed up to improve coverage for the Derby, the first leg in horse racing’s Triple Crown.

“These enhancements at Churchill Downs are just one way we’re investing in the Louisville area,” said Hood Harris, president, AT&T Kentucky. “When our customers visit Churchill Downs, we want them to have a seamless network experience – whether they are making calls, checking email, downloading apps or surfing the internet.”

Churchill Downs Racetrack GM Ryan Jordan said: “As mobile usage continues to climb, it’s important for us to maximize network coverage at Churchill Downs.” The improvements, he notes, enhance the guest experience. “Our partnership with Mobilitie lets guests with smartphone service from participating carriers maintain connectivity. They can also share their onsite experiences in near-real time.”

Mobilitie owns and operates the neutral-host DAS network at Churchill Downs, one of the largest and most advanced DAS in sports, according to Mobilitie President Christos Karmis. The company regularly upgrades the network to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of visitors who attend the Derby each year.
