The FCC’s 24 GHz spectrum auction has brought in well over $1 billion in total provisional bids. The total as of round 21 yesterday, was $1,182,513,875. The auction began March 14. That compares to the previous auction of 28 GHz spectrum licenses, which brought in just over $700 million in bids in over nine weeks.

Bids for licenses in New York and Los Angeles continue to lead. Those stood at $37,375,000 and $28,759,000 respectively, after round 21.

Bidding is currently in three, one-hour rounds, but the FCC could increase the number of rounds or shorten their duration if the agency wants to speed bidding. Auction 102 offers 2,909 licenses in the 24 GHz band. The lower segment of the 24 GHz band (24.25–24.45 GHz) will be licensed as two 100-megahertz blocks, and the upper segment (24.75–25.25 GHz) will be licensed as five 100-megahertz blocks.
