Thanks to Mainstream Fiber Networks, LLC, with funding supplied by Indiana’s Next Level Broadband program, connectivity is coming to more of the state’s rural residents. GovTech.com reports a state grant of $2 million will be available to help underserved Floyd County. The grant will be matched by Mainstream Fiber Networks.

So far, the Next Level Broadband program has funded 14 different projects in Indiana at a cost of $28.4 million, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

“In the 21st century, high quality, affordable broadband is essential to the success of Hoosiers and our state,” stated Governor Eric J. Holcomb. “Economic development, the health of our citizens and our quality of life will be directly impacted by expanding broadband to these unserved areas.”

“It’s a great day for Floyd County,” agreed Commissioner John Schellenberger. Indiana’s outreach is aimed at residents who are without at least one telecommunication provider offering at least 10 Mbps download speed and 1 Mbps upload speed.

“In our area, some homes and businesses can’t access broadband, even though it is available a short distance away,” State Rep. Ed Clere from New Albany, said. “This investment will help close those gaps and provide the connectivity that is increasingly essential for business, education and health. It will improve quality of life and help support home values and business investment.”
