RFPs for the Regional Broadband Feasibility Study and Regional Economic Recovery plan are now available for review and distribution, according to OMEGA (Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association), the body that coordinates broadband expansion in a ten-county region of Ohio. RFPs will still be accepted by the agency up to October 30, reports the Daily Jeff.

The OMEGA Regional Economic Recovery coordination plan will bring focused technical assistance to local governments and economic development workers. Responding to the pandemic situation has made the Ohio community acutely aware of the need for a broadband strategy that incorporates reliable connectivity for education, business, and telehealth needs. The multi-county project is looking at both long and short term broadband options.

Activities that foster the region’s recovery from the impact of COVID-19 will receive priority assistance. Technical assistance can include market analysis to see which industries could thrive in OMEGA territory, as well as the development of region-specific revitalization plans. Executive Director Jeannette Wierzbicki is accepting proposals until the end of this month at: jeannettew@omegasistrict.org or they can be submitted here.

Funding for the OMEGA broadband development plans has been provided by the U.S. Economic Development Administration under the CARES Act. Such funding is specifically set aside for economic recovery from the pandemic in an effort to develop a more robust economy.
