The C-Band Alliance has a new head of Government and Advocacy Affairs. Veteran lobbyist Peter Pitsch succeeds Preston Padden, Multichannel News reported. Padden stepped away from the post earlier this month, Inside Towers reported.

Pitsch retired in 2018, as Executive Director of Communications Policy and Associate General Counsel for Intel Corporation. He was responsible for Intel’s global telecommunications policies, according to the company’s website.

Prior to joining Intel, Pitsch was president of his own firm that represented telecom clients before the FCC and Congress. He was Chief of Staff to FCC Chairman Dennis Patrick during the Reagan Administration from 1987 to 1989, and Chief of the FCC’s Office of Plans and Policy from 1981 to 1987.

The Alliance is comprised of Intelsat, SES, Eutelsat and Telesat. They’ve proposed clearing 20 MHz of C-Band spectrum to be sold on the secondary market, and re-purposed for wireless use.

C-band is used for satellite delivery of broadcast TV and cable programs and satellite radio services. The FCC is currently weighing several proposals to free up all or some of the 500 MHz (of 3.7 – 4.2 GHz).
