The city council for Cheyenne, WY recently approved creating a Community Technology Advisory Council (TAC) to improve its broadband infrastructure and advance its technology environment for business. Government Technology reported the group would likely be comprised of experts in the tech space who could help prepare the city for 5G and smart transportation.

Councilwoman Michelle Aldrich, the resolution’s sponsor, described the TAC as a non-binding advisory council. “I’m hoping it’s going to be a collaborative and cooperative effort with our county partners as well as our smaller communities in Laramie County,” said Aldrich.

Mayor Patrick Collins says he doesn’t believe there will be any financial costs in setting up the TAC. He envisions the group will help him and other council members better understand tech and its relation to the city and job creation.

“What I want to do is get this work started and try to understand if there are things we can do to make the city a more technologically accommodating place to do business,” said Collins.
