Four FCC veterans, including former Democratic commissioner Mignon Clyburn, have been tapped for President-elect Joe Biden’s agency transition team.
Former FCC attorney John Williams will lead the group, pending an agreement, according to Biden’s transition website. Williams is now the senior counsel on the House Judiciary Committee. He was senior counselor to the agency’s Office of the General Counsel and senior agency official for privacy from 2015 to 2019, according to his LinkedIn page.
Since leaving the FCC in 2018, Clyburn has joined several boards, most recently Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation and RingCentral, a cloud communications provider. Clyburn is President of Washington, D.C.-based consultancy MLC Strategies, LLC, a position she’s held since January 2019.
The team also includes Smitty Smith, now deputy managing partner at DLA Piper law firm. He was a legal advisor to former FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler.
Paul de Sa rounds out the group. He’s now a partner with telecom consulting firm Quadra Partners. Previously, de Sa led the agency’s Office of Strategic Plans and Policy Analysis and helped write the U.S. National Broadband Plan, according to Quadra.
