Yesterday, the Small Cell Sales Manager for CommScope Networks, Kat Folger, walked webinar attendees through the options offered by the company in providing densification in 4G/5G buildouts. Folger discussed the many ecosystem obstacles small cell faces, from technical hardware variations to aesthetics. Folger is responsible for growing the CommScope Metro Cell product line having previously worked as their Regional Sales Manager. The webinar was co-sponsored by communications product distribution and service solution provider KGPCo.
The need to adapt to tastes and trends with municipalities and utilities as small cell and 5G deployments roll out across the country has challenged CommScope to offer a wide range of choices from antennas to poles to cabinets and enclosures. For instance, the company offers both pico and micro radio enclosures and has developed a MV2 enclosure to be made available in the coming months that won’t require carriers to take down existing shrouds.
The 10”-to-12” diameter poles ranging from 22 to 48 feet, can, along with other options, be tapered or 6-sided depending on the local architectural styles and tastes. Poles can be adapted as “smart” poles by adding WiFi or cameras although Folger reminded attendees the pole itself is not smart, just an adaptable housing for the more intelligent add-ons. Munis have their choice of many colors in poles: gray, green, black, brown, metallic, white, light gray and concrete. With those options and more, CommScope hopes to make small cell deployments faster, easier and support the wide range of ecosystem requirements necessary for today’s environment.
