Comtrain (Comtrain Texas, LLC) headquartered in Austin, TX, is a provider of industry-leading Tower Safety & Rescue Training programs. The company recently conducted its first training class in the Mid-Atlantic region, using a site owned by Baltimore, MD- based Newkirk Tower, LLC.

“This session is our first in the Baltimore area. We wanted to be able to offer our courses to tower climbers in the active Baltimore-D.C.-Northern Virginia market,” says Comtrain President Zane Windham. “This site worked out well for us.”

Comtrain’s three-day course included classroom sessions at a nearby hotel and a full day on the tower. “We had a small but enthusiastic group for the class. This tower turned out to be one the best sites we have used,” comments Steve Wilcox, Comtrain’s on-site instructor.

The Newkirk Tower site is a 192-foot self-supporting tower located in an industrial area in southeast Baltimore. The tower sits adjacent to the busy I-95 on the north side of the Baltimore Harbor/Ft. McHenry tunnel entrances and overlooks the Port of Baltimore as well as extensive warehousing, transportation and manufacturing facilities in the area.

“The tower location is ideal for 5G, FirstNet, government agency and industrial wireless uses,” says Newkirk Tower Owner Michael Forakis. “We’re happy to make the site available for climbing and safety training that will hopefully help reduce the shortage of trained tower technicians.”
