The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) Board said Thursday Edward Parkinson has been named Executive Director of the organization.

“After conducting a comprehensive and thorough search, we are pleased to announce the selection of Ed Parkinson to be the Executive Director of the FirstNet Authority,” said FirstNet Authority Board Chair Edward Horowitz.

“I congratulate Ed on his well-deserved new position as Executive Director of FirstNet,” said WIA President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “I look forward to continued collaboration on ways the wireless industry can help ensure first responders have the best communications tools available. I know that his strong leadership will bring great success to FirstNet.”

Parkinson was named Acting Executive Director for FirstNet in October 2018. Under his leadership, the organization achieved several key milestones to advance the nationwide public safety broadband network, including the release of the FirstNet Authority Roadmap and the first set of investment opportunities for expanding and enhancing the network.

Parkinson was one of the first employees to join the FirstNet in 2013, and since then he has held a variety of leadership positions within the organization, including Executive Director of External Affairs. Prior to joining FirstNet, he worked on the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee for then Chairman Peter King. During his time with the committee, Parkinson drafted the initial bill that began the effort to create FirstNet.
