As the world re-awakens in the aftermath of the pandemic, enterprises across the globe have expressed a heightened interest in 5G. As 5GRadar.com reports, a study published by business risk specialist EY (Ernst & Young) breaks down how 1,012 different businesses responded when questioned about their future needs for 5G development.

EY determined that there are three basic metrics a company should consider when assessing its 5G development plans for clients. First, think about the demands of the post-pandemic operation of the company and sync it up with how 5G can help meet those demands. Second, show customers that your company’s ability to address their 5G evolution will deliver the best results. Third, tailor each solution to the specific requirements of that business.

“There is an obvious hunger and interest in 5G and IoT across all businesses,” stated Adrian Baschnonga, EY Global Telecommunications Lead Analyst. “It is clear that service providers should reposition themselves as collaborators to their customers, but there is no one-size-fits-all solution to unlocking the benefits of 5G.”

The clear majority of those interviewed by EY, 73 percent, said that 5G would continue to gain a more important role in company operations. The healthcare industry in particular responded enthusiastically in favor of 5G. Industries employing more IoT applications were also more likely to say they would invest in 5G. The worldwide survey also detected differences between different countries and regions with Asian countries being more receptive to adopting new technologies. American interest fell somewhere in the middle, with European respondents showing more restraint in embracing 5G.

“Telecommunications operators should take steps to improve their transformation expertise, recognizing that businesses want suppliers to act as partners that provide end-to-end solutions,” said Tom Loozen, EY Global Telecommunications Leader. “For this to happen, operators should explore new ecosystem positions while focusing on the opportunities for business model overhaul that 5G can enable.”
