Leticia Latino, President and Chief Executive Officer of Neptuno, and Dr. Rikin Thakker, Vice President, Telecommunications and Spectrum Policy for the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council, were appointed Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, to the new Broadband Infrastructure Deployment Job Skills and Training Opportunities Working Group of the FCC’s Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee.

The rechartered BDAC held its first meeting yesterday, when the Commission made the announcement about the new working group. The overall goal of the BDAC remains the same – to develop and make recommendations to the FCC concerning accelerating broadband deployment by reducing and/or removing regulatory barriers to infrastructure investment.  Latino serves on WIA’s Innovation & Technology Council. Additionally, Thakker is a faculty member in the graduate engineering program at the University of Maryland, where WIA held its Connect 2019 event in April. Thakker authored the whitepaper “Getting Ready for 5G: Preparing a Skilled Workforce for Future Wireless Networks.”

“Workforce development, particularly through training and apprenticeships, is a priority that will benefit the entire wireless industry and the consumers we serve,” said WIA President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “We congratulate Leticia and Rikin on their well-deserved roles, and I am confident that they will lead the working group and the industry to great accomplishments for strengthening and building the industry workforce.”
