The FCC amended its rules to reflect the agency’s upcoming new address for the Commission’s headquarters, 45 L Street NE, Washington, DC 20554. The change is effective today, October 13. The Commission’s new headquarters is still under construction, according to a Federal Register notice.

In May, the Commission’s rules were amended to reflect the new address for filing hand-carried documents at the FCC’s headquarters and establish a new closing time for accepting such filings. Those changes remain in effect. In the meantime, documents submitted by mail should be addressed to: Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC 20554.

A new move date has not yet been announced. COVID and construction has impacted several of the move dates, including the last one for July. The FCC sent employees home in March due to the pandemic. Employees were scheduled to telework at least until the new building is ready, Inside Towers previously reported.

The Commission has been preparing to move to a smaller space for several years. The Portals II building at 445 12th St. Southwest, near the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, has been home to the FCC since 1997. Previously, the agency moved from M Street in Northwest, D.C., near many prominent communications law firms. At the time, the move to The Portals consolidated employees that were spread out in eight other locations across the District of Columbia into one building.
