Albany, NY-based FirstLight has acquired ColoSpace. FirstLight sells fiber-optic data, internet, data center, cloud computing, unified communications, advanced technologies and construction services to enterprise and carrier customers throughout the Northeast. Massachusetts-based ColoSpace is a regional provider of co-location, managed IT services, cloud solutions, and disaster recovery services in New England. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
FirstLight PresidentCEO Kurt Van Wagenen called the acquisition an ideal match. “ColoSpace’s data centers, located in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, are in the heart of our service territory, and in fact, are currently connected to FirstLight’s fiber network,” he said.
Since the deal closed, FirstLight has added four data centers, with nearly 20,000 square feet of space, to its 11 existing facilities. Massachusetts is an area FirstLight has been focused on continuing to grow after its previous acquisition of 186 Communications. Acquiring ColoSpace will accelerate that growth, according to Van Wagenen.
Founded in 1999, FirstLight has been building and operating its own fiber optic network for 20 years. FirstLight serves the networking needs of national telecommunications providers, CLECs, and enterprises, including healthcare organizations, high tech manufacturing and research facilities, financial institutions, colleges and universities, K-12 schools, public safety agencies, as well as local and state governments.
ColoSpace was founded nearly 20 years ago. “As enterprise cloud adoption continues to accelerate exponentially, IT solutions coupled with scalable, low latency connectivity has become increasingly important to our clients,” said ColoSpace Co-Founder/Chairman Aaron Sawchuk. He will remain with the organization to help lead the company’s Data Center/Cloud business.
