Former iBiquity Digital attorney Al Shuldiner is the new Chief of the Media Bureau’s Audio Division. The agency made the announcement Friday. Shuldiner replaces long-time Chief Peter Doyle, who announced his retirement plans last year, Inside Towers reported. To ensure a smooth transition, Doyle now takes a temporary, part-time role as Senior Advisor in the division.

Chairman Ajit Pai thanked Doyle for his service: “Peter’s sixteen-and-a-half year run as Division Chief has been truly outstanding. Peter worked tirelessly to ensure fair and efficient licensing of the radio service. His dedication and sound judgment have enabled thousands of radio stations to serve their listeners. In particular, I’m personally grateful for his leadership and hard work over the past few years on the AM revitalization initiative.”

Shuldiner brings decades of legal experience to the FCC, including a position at Vinson & Elkins, where he represented telecom clients, prior to his digital radio work. He was SVP/General Counsel at iBiquity for 14 years. After DTS acquired iBiquity in 2015, he oversaw the transition of the iBiquity legal affairs to DTS. He’s been consulting technology companies, focusing on their FCC needs for the past two years, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Pai said Shuldiner’s “breadth of experience in the radio industry will enable him to hit the ground running. His “extensive knowledge of the radio business as well as FCC regulatory issues makes him extremely qualified to assume this position,” said Pai.
