Frontier Communications’ New Frontier – Verizon’s Phone, Internet and TV

frontierFrontier Communications will take over Verizon’s wireline phone, Internet, and TV networks in California, Florida, and Texas on April 1. The deal, worth $10.54 billion, was announced last year and has finally received all regulatory approvals needed to complete the transaction. Verizon’s wireless infrastructure and customer are not included in the agreement.

The data involved in the transfer has been steadily exchanging hands over the course of the past year. Mike Flynn, Frontier’s president for the Southeast region, was quoted in the Tampa Tribune. He said, “Frontier takes the customer experience very, very seriously — it’s our No. 1 mission. The challenge for us is going to be making the transfer seamless and unnoticeable, but if we do have a bump, that we address it quickly.”

Analysts agree that large telecoms are focusing on wireless broadband service, rather than landline services. This was part of the reasoning that led the FCC to approve the deal last September. According to documents, the FCC determined “Frontier is more likely to accelerate broadband service in the transaction market areas than Verizon would be absent the transaction.”

If everything flows smoothly on April 1, Verizon’s former customers will not notice a service interruption when Frontier takes over, and Verizon will be free to concentrate on its wireless infrastructure.
