With a unanimous 4-0 vote, the Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Commission in House Springs, MO approved zoning plans to allow the erection of a new cell tower. According to MyLeaderPaper.com, the new 180-foot tower will replace an existing AT&T tower that is already operating at capacity. The site along Highway 30 will be leased from private owners. The quarter acre plot is part of an 18.12 acre parcel owned by Randy and Rosemary Marquart.

Russell Been of Cellective Solutions of Valley Park, explained to those at the zoning meeting that consideration for neighbors was a key part of the design. The commissioners agreed to recommendations for a shorter setback as well as the suggestion to artificially landscape the site.

“We would have to take down 75-foot oak and maple trees to be able to plant 6-foot pine trees,” said Been. “We feel the neighbors would be better served by keeping things the way they are.” The proposed location is a hilly, wooded location that the parties agreed would provide its own natural landscaping.

The primary occupant of the new tower would be AT&T. “AT&T is improving its system, and installing new equipment would put it [the current tower] over capacity,” noted Been. The other carriers will continue to keep using the original cell tower.

As reported by MyLeaderPaper.com, no one at the zoning meeting voiced any objections. When complete, the self-supporting 180-foot tower will be 121.2 feet away from the nearest residential property line to the west with a 145.10 feet margin separating the residential property to the north. The nearest home is 260 feet away. The Jefferson County Council is expected to hold a final vote later this month.
