Huawei sued the Canadian government and two of its law enforcement agencies, Sunday. The Chinese telecom is also said to be preparing to sue the U.S. government.

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou claims in the lawsuit filed Sunday, the Canadian government confiscated her phone and waited three hours to tell her she was under arrest, reported the Associated Press

Canada apprehended her in December at the behest of the U.S.

“We are a country governed by the rule of law. Canada is conducting a fair, unbiased, and transparent legal proceeding with respect to the arrest of Ms. Meng Wanzhou,” a spokesperson for the office of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness said in a statement. The office declined to comment specifically on her lawsuit.

Meng is out on bail, but is due in court tomorrow to set a date to begin extradition proceedings.

Meanwhile, sources tell The New York Times, Huawei is preparing to file suit against the U.S. for banning federal agencies from using the company’s products. U.S. security officials say Huawei telecom equipment can be used to spy on the American government and its citizens. The company refutes those allegations.

The U.S. does have a ban in place, preventing federal agencies from using Huawei technology or products. The suit could be aimed at forcing the federal government to more publicly make its case against the Chinese equipment maker, according to the sources.  Comments? Email Us.
