While banned from the telecom playing field in many other countries, like the United States, Huawei is still a player in the Dominican Republic, reports LoopJamaica.com. The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) said it will not exclude Huawei from its 5G rollout plans.

“We are looking for a more competitive, dynamic, more connected Dominican Republic,” stated President Luis Abinader. “The implementation of the 5G network will be a great step in the history of the country’s telecommunications development, which will translate into a profound digital transformation. The winning company must implement a 5G-infrastructure deployment with national coverage at the end of five years.”

The Dominican Republic is seeking international partners to tender its growing 5G network. For its part, Huawei was quick to suggest it has the solutions that the country needs, according to the account.

Through Resolution 005-21, the INDOTEL Board of Directors set the tender specifications in the 700 MHz band and in the 3,300 to 3,460 MHz segment of the spectrum. President Abinader has said that 5G expansion is important to the Dominican Republic as his country strives to keep pace with the rest of the connected world. He specifically noted the Dominican Republic hopes to benefit from more modern and wide ranging medical accessibility.

The Dominican Republic is now soliciting proposals. It will solidify its 5G plans by September 2021 and will begin building by November.
