The passing of American Tower founder Steve Dodge last week triggered responses from tower executives and trade associations, remembering Dodge as a mentor and, forgive us, a towering presence in the industry he helped create.

“The entire WIA community was saddened by the passing of Steve Dodge, a giant in our industry,” said WIA President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “Words cannot describe the impact Steve had on the wireless industry. He was a true visionary who founded multiple companies including American Tower, setting our industry on its current course of tremendous growth and innovation.”

Adelstein added: “I am so pleased Steve was rightfully honored as an inaugural inductee in the Mobile Infrastructure Hall of Fame. Steve was mentor to many in our industry and the thoughts and prayers of all of us at WIA are with Steve’s family and many friends.”

“Steve’s legacy in our sector is without equal, he was friend and mentor to me and so many others,” said Digital Bridge Holdings, LLC CEO Marc Ganzi. “We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to him for his leadership in helping create and form this great industry.”

“Steve helped define our business model and make towers the globally-accepted successful investment they are today,” said Jeff Stoops, President & Chief Executive Officer of SBA Communications Corporation. “He was a pioneer of our industry and we owe him a great deal. He was fun to be around and always spoke his mind, right or wrong. He was usually right.”
