UPDATE The Connecticut Siting Council and city of Kent will hold a public hearing July 23, on the proposed construction of a 150- to 175-foot cell tower at either 93 Richards Road or 38 Bald Hill Road, according to the NewsTimes.
Homeland Towers and AT&T are proposing the site to help provide additional coverage for residents and first responders. The debate has raged back and forth between the city council and residents as they weighed the need for improved wireless coverage versus preservation of the town’s aesthetics.
“The purpose of the hearing is to receive evidence on the applicants’ assertions that the public need for the facility outweighs any adverse environmental effects from the construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility,” according to the state Siting Council’s hearing notice.
The hearing will take place via Zoom, beginning with an evidentiary session at 2 p.m. EST, followed by public comment at 6:30 p.m. The evidentiary session will provide the applicants, parties and intervenors an opportunity to cross-examine positions.
During the public comment session, the applicants will present an overview of the proposed facility and members of the public will be allowed to make brief statements into the record.

Those joining by phone must leave a voicemail message at 860-827-2935 with their name, telephone number, and mailing address, the NewsTimes reported.
