Space agencies including the U.K. Space Agency, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport have joined forces in support of exploring greater opportunities for digital connectivity. The U.K. has focused its attention on improving logistics through optimal use of 5G terrestrial and space technology, reports Talk Talk For Everyone.

Speaking on behalf of ESA, Magali Vaissiere, Director of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications noted. “This is a great opportunity for ESA to join forces with DCMS and U.K. Space Agency and prove the key role that satellite communications will play in the future converged 5G networks.”

Catherine Mealing-Jones, Director of Growth at the UK Space Agency, agreed saying, “Access to constant connectivity regardless of location offers huge benefits.”

The group’s call for proposals is intended to gather information and set directions to combine resources to close the digital divide. As Vaissiere stated, the agencies hope to “…stimulate the emergence of sustainable applications relying on innovative 5G solutions, starting from the logistics sector.”
