TekSavvy Solutions, which claims to be the largest ISP in Canada, has filed a complaint with that country’s Complaint and Competition Bureau, alleging that telecoms Bell Canada and Rogers Communications Canada, Inc. have engaged in anti-competitive activities. TekSavvy alleged it was damaged by the others’ actions, according to a company release.
Backed by the findings of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), there’s evidence the accused duo did not adhere to standard rating practices.
The CRTC noted numerous instances of price deviation in the period between 2016 and 2019. TekSavvy is concerned that countless Canadian citizens were overcharged due to price manipulation.
“These kind of anti-competitive activities are the reason why Canadians pay among the very highest prices for internet and mobile services in the world,” said VP Canadian Consumer Legal Affairs, Janet Lo. “Cabinet should not only reject the Petitions immediately but do everything in its power to see its policy goals are met: Deliver lower internet and cell phone bills and protect consumer interests.”
