D.C. Fire and EMS crews rescued a climber stuck on a District of Columbia Police tower Wednesday. Officials called this a “high angle” rescue.

WUSA-TV reported the worker had all of his safety equipment attached but was unable to come down on his own.

The temperatures were in the 20s yesterday in the region. Officials believe the man may have been suffering from hypothermia and was not able to descend the tower, according to WTTG-TV.

The tower is in the 6000 block of Georgia Avenue in Northwest, DC. The man became stranded around 10 a.m., according to WTTG. Firefighters said the man’s co-workers called for help around 1:20 p.m.

Firefighters’ first rescue attempt was not successful. They then used a 100-foot aerial ladder truck and a specialized rescue squad. The man was wearing a harness and was able to walk down the ladder safely at around 4:20 p.m., reported WTTG. No injuries had been reported at press time.

Here’s a video of the rescue from WUSA’s Facebook page.
