Marin County Cell Site Outages Drop

The number of cell sites out of service because of the Pacific Gas & Electric power outages is starting to decline.

Overall, the number of cell site outages was 1.8 percent, or 463 out of 26,120 sites on Tuesday, down from 3.3 percent the previous day: 378 had no power, 37 were out because of transport issues and 36 were damaged, according to the FCC’s Disaster Information Reporting System. That compares to Monday, when 702 cell sites had no power, 88 were out because of transport issues and 60 were damaged.

Marin County, which had the most outages since the FCC began keeping track, dropped to 95 cell sites outages (out of 268): 83 sites lacked power, four were out due to transport issues and six were damaged. That compares to 57.1 percent out on Monday. 

Cable and wireline companies reported 223,973 subscribers out of service due to the power shutoffs; this may include the loss of telephone, television, and/or internet services. That figure is down from 454,722 subscribers without service on Monday. 

911 calls to the Fairfax, California Police Department have been rerouted to another Public Safety Answering Point. All other 911 call centers are working.

No television stations reported being off the air. Twenty-one FM stations reported being off the air; that’s up from four on Monday. Two others reported are off-air and sent their programming to other stations. Three AMs are off-air, one more than Monday.
