An unnamed global technology company has selected Zayo for a dark fiber solution to connect key markets nationwide. According to a press release from Zayo, “the high-count fiber solution will be deployed in an accelerated time frame, tailored to the customer’s specific requirements.” The company said the contract represents one of the larger long haul dark fiber contracts of 2018.
“The solution leverages thousands of miles of Zayo’s extensive dark fiber networks across multiple regions in the U.S., including the recently announced Columbus, Ohio to Ashburn, Virginia and Dallas, Texas to Atlanta, Georgia routes,” the release stated.
Wells Fargo Senior Analyst Jennifer Fritzsche said this release offers evidence that the company is moving forward during this transition with a “business as usual” mentality.
“We continue to believe ZAYO is moving forward along the path to separate the company into two cos – InfraCo and EnterpiseCo,” Fritzsche said. “We await more financial disclosure as to what costs should be grouped with each division. We note for ZAYO, bookings is a very key metric as it is the metric which has been most underwhelming of late. Our estimate for December quarter bookings is $7.8MM, a 6.8% improvement from the September quarter bookings of $7.3MM.”
“Zayo’s extensive owned dark fiber was a significant competitive advantage in winning this business,” said Phil Mottram, chief customer officer at Zayo. “The company needed the ability to manage their own network that could scale to accommodate continued growth — and dark fiber is the ideal solution. It’s an excellent illustration of leveraging our embedded Zayo network for the benefit of this important customer.”
