The National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) was a key participant yesterday at the 2018 Environmental, Health & Safety Communications Symposium in Arlington, Texas. The conference, organized by the Environmental, Health & Safety Communications Panel (EHSCP), consisted of a series of high-profile sessions focused on key industry safety and health topics, and was attended by stakeholders representing prominent companies from throughout the wireless ecosystem.

During the conference, NATE Executive Director Todd Schlekeway delivered a presentation entitled Elevating Wireless in 2018 and Beyond. Major themes that emerged from NATE’s presentation revolved around both the challenges and opportunities facing the industry on the road to 5G.

During his remarks, Schlekeway shared the association’s perspective on the labor shortage confronting the industry, the potential safety and 5G deployment ramifications related to lagging payment terms and the OSHA regulatory landscape. Schlekeway also highlighted what NATE and the industry are doing to enhance workforce development initiatives and facilitate a broad array of training pathways. He also illuminated efforts to develop industry-wide national consensus standards and promote nationwide and portable worker certification through the National Wireless Safety Alliance (NWSA).

“I would like to thank the leadership at EHSCP for organizing and hosting this dynamic event,” said Executive Director Todd Schlekeway. “The wireless carriers, tower owner/vertical realtors, OEM’s and large general contractor companies involved with EHSCP are valuable NATE partners and members when it comes to our mutually shared goals of enhancing worker safety and quality in the industry,” Schlekeway added.

EHSCP is a consortium of communications safety, health and environmental professionals dedicated to promoting the environment, employee safety and health, while preventing accidents throughout the communications industry. The panel strives to provide a united voice and constructive input in the development and promulgation of environmental, health and safety standards and guidelines that affect the varied businesses within the communications industry.
