Pai sees VTel tower & discusses 5G with Green Mountain Communications

In a tour of New England last week, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai visited several communities to discuss the Commission’s efforts to bridge the digital divide. Pictured is Pai inspecting a tower owned by VTel in Springfield, VT, the FCC tells Inside Towers. VTel provides wireless telephone service, as well as wired telephone and internet service.

In Pembroke, NH, Pai heard from the executives and employees of Green Mountain Communications, about the opportunities and concerns facing the company for 5G deployment. The company provides services to build, maintain and deploy wireless systems in New England. They also discussed the benefits that Green Mountain Communications has as a member of the NATE Star Initiative and the credentialing process that several of their employees have gone through with the National Wireless Safety Alliance.

“Our team was thrilled to have the opportunity to share with Chairman Pai their perspective as a contractor in the wireless future,” stated Green Mountain Communications President and Owner Victor Drouin.

Pai’s trip also took him through Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine. At a Veterans Affairs hospital in Providence, he saw how telemedicine is helping veterans with conditions like PTSD and met first responders in Hartford who are at the cutting edge of deploying Next-Generation 911 technologies, which make it easier for those with speech disabilities, or domestic violence victims, to reach 911 via text message.
