Prime Tower Development announced yesterday the company reached a master lease agreement (MLA) with AT&T to provide the carrier with new site builds as well as co-location venues throughout the southeast and mid-atlantic region. Prime Tower Development owns and operates roughly 31 towers in Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.

“We are really excited about the MLA,” said Steve Handmaker, Managing Partner of Prime Tower. “It’s a win-win for both parties. Prior to starting Prime Tower, I worked in various capacities with AT&T for many years in several different markets, and it’s an honor to continue this business relationship with such a fine industry leader.”

Handmaker told Inside Towers his company has created a niche in the competitive tower development sector. When they started Prime Tower back in 2008, he said, their model was to build any and all towers regardless of location. Oddly enough, their first site they developed and owned was a two-carrier site in Anchorage, AK.

“After a few years of developing raw land builds that spread from Louisiana to Virginia,” Handmaker said, “we realized the more sustainable model is to focus on zoning protected sites in heavily populated cities. And we pursued them with a passion, regardless of timeframe as these assets are the most desired by our wireless provider partners.”
