Samsung is slated to break ground on a $17 million chip fabrication plant somewhere in the U.S. Mobile World Live reported the company is considering several locations to bring approximately 1,800 semiconductor manufacturing jobs to the United States.

Samsung’s plant will produce “advanced logic devices for Samsung’s Foundry business.” Construction could begin as early as 2022, and end in late 2024.

The South Korean company is evaluating sites in Arizona, New York, and Texas, where a current Samsung plant is located. According to Mobile World Live, three other chip factories are planned or under construction in Arizona. TSMC already broke ground on a $12 billion plant, and Intel has plans to build two factories, estimated to cost $20 billion.

Samsung could benefit from the U.S. government’s tax breaks and subsidies on chip manufacturing to increase domestic production due to global shortages and trade concerns with China. Inside Towers reported that in June, the Senate approved tax credits for companies that invest in manufacturing, and President Biden has called for up to $50 billion in funding for chipmakers.
