This week, New York Senators James Skoufis and David Carlucci announced the construction of two Verizon Wireless towers to fix dangerous dead zones on the Palisades Parkway, according to the Rockland Report. Both towers are expected to be completed this summer and anticipated to be fully active by the end of 2020.

Carlucci said, “Dead-zones like this stretch of highway are extremely dangerous. EMS has told us, in some cases, accidents cannot be reported until 15 to 20 minutes later. If first responders are delayed to an accident scene, then lives can be lost.”

In February, Skoufis and Carlucci called on Verizon Wireless to prioritize the construction of the two towers. The Senators and local EMS, highlighted the immediate need for improved coverage, citing multiple safety issues the dead zones have caused for both first responders and commuters. In March, the “dead zone” area then served as a COVID-19 drive-thru testing location, heightening the need for better service.

“I’m beyond thrilled that our efforts to accelerate the construction of cell towers in this notorious dead zone were successful…I thank Verizon for doing the right thing by our residents, visitors, and EMS alike,” said Skoufis.
