Small Cell Forum Picks AT&T's Orloff As New Chairman

The Small Cell Forum on Monday appointed AT&T’s David Orloff as its new chairman.
Orloff serves as director of RAN product introduction at the U.S. telco and has been a member of the Small Cell Forum’s board since 2013. Between August, 2012, and March, 2015, he was AT&T’s director of small cells platforms.
Orloff will lead the Small Cell Forum as it embarks on two new projects aimed at establishing a framework for rolling out 5G HetNets: ‘Deploying Hyperdense Networks’, and ‘Enabling Digitized Enterprise’. 
“[The] Small Cell Forum is focused on delivering the enabling technologies and architecture to ensure the automation, service delivery and interoperability required to make 5G a success,” said Orloff, in a statement. “I am honored to take this role at an extremely exciting time for small cells, which are now poised to be the foundation of the dense HetNet and of 5G architectures.”
Orloff replaces Alan Law, senior technology strategist and distinguished engineer at Vodafone, who has served as chairman of the Small Cell Forum since August, 2014.
“I would like to thank Alan for his stellar leadership at a critical time for the industry,” said Small Cell Forum CEO Sue Monahan. “Small cells have made enormous progress and are set to be the primary enabler of future networks for enterprise, dense urban, and rural services. The Forum under Alan’s leadership over last two years has been a major catalyst for that growth.”
