Clay Parchewsky was given the Structure, Tower and Antenna Council’s (STAC) Lifetime Achievement Award. The Canadian-based association lauded Parchewsky as a founding member of STAC, saying his efforts were pivotal to the group’s very existence.
Parchewsky is Health and Safety Manager at WesTower Communication and has more than 20 years in wireless and broadcast tower projects across North America. Some of his work has included projects in excess of 2,000 feet, and he’s even had the pleasure of watching a space shuttle launch while building a tall tower near Cape Canaveral, just 30 miles away.
Having been involved with several key NATE initiatives in the U.S., Parchewsky recognized that the Canadian tower industry needed its own dedicated health and safety group that could inform Canadian tower climbers about the hazards, best practices and regulations that shaped the work they were doing specifically. It was due to his efforts and the support from WesTower’s management, to push this new initiative forward. STAC was launched in January 2016, at which point he was named as the inaugural lead of the STAC Workplace Health & Safety Committee, and as a STAC Steering Committee co-chair.
During four years in these roles, Clay led the development of STAC’s flagship best practice document – the STAC Climber Training Guidelines – co-authored STAC’s first best practice document on acceptable anchorage points on a tower, and played a key role in the development of industry best practices for accessing inside-climb monopoles, among other initiatives.
