When did you begin the association?
2007 (our 10th anniversary was June 2017)
What do you consider to be your focus?
The Association is organized exclusively for the purposes of promoting the common business interests of its members and to improving the business conditions of the wireless telecommunications industry, specifically in the Commonwealth of Virginia and generally in the mid-Atlantic region. The Association shall seek to promote positive industry awareness, cultivate relationships and foster the professional development of its members by providing educational opportunities, information and a forum for collaboration among industry and community representatives.
How do you try to impact state-related issues?
When issues such as deployment of small cell technology, stealth design, RF health or tower climbers’ safety concerns, the Virginia Wireless Association will partner with the Wireless Industry Association (WIA) or National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) to reach-out and formulate a coordinated response.
What charities do you serve and why?
The Virginia Wireless Association seeks to establish relationships with locally based or nationwide charities that have a role in the wireless technology or wireless markets. Several charities or institutions we support include: Warriors4Wireless, Hopecam and Project Lifesaver.
What is your top educational/informational event or conference?
The most recent educational event was held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA. The topic was 5G technology and involved speakers from T-Mobile and other wireless professionals.
What is your top social/networking event?
Our annual golf tournament held each Fall in jurisdictions throughout the Commonwealth. The evening prior to a tournament a social is held so wireless professionals can exchange ideas and stories relating to our industry. Our last tournament involved over 120 players enjoying golf at the Kingsmill resort in Williamsburg, VA.
What is your next event?
Holiday social December 12, in Richmond, VA at Keagans Restaurant and Pub starting at 5:30. Sponsorships are still available.
Our 11th annual golf tournament is September 17 & 18, 2018 at the Kingsmill Resort, Williamsburg, VA.
