On Tuesday, the Washoe County (Nevada) commissioners approved a 45-foot monopine proposed by Verizon Wireless after the Board of Adjustments previously denied the permit due to site suitability. Four out of five commissioners who supported the project believed that the telecom did its “due diligence” regarding the project needed to improve service.

According to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, the proposed site is within the residential area of Incline Village, near a popular trailhead on Lake Tahoe’s East Shore. During this week’s public meeting held via Zoom, some residents were against the project while others embraced it.

Resident Joyce Bock spoke out against the tower. “It’s not appropriate in that particular spot and it’s close to a popular hiking trail,” she said. Another resident, Danielle Hughes, is in favor of the project. “It’s critically needed to improve technology and support,” Hughes noted.

Craig Olson, the property owner of the proposed tower site, commented, “There are plenty of areas to mountain bike and hike, and I don’t want anything that is ugly. This is a community need. I’m allowing this because we need the service.”
