What are your thoughts on bringing broadband to the Grand Canyon? The National Park Service wants to know and is giving you until January 6, 2020, to weigh in. GrandCanyonNews.com explains that the proposed Telecommunications Plan and Environmental Assessment is an attempt to set a digital direction for the park’s future.
A telecommunications infrastructure already exists within limited areas of the park. An expansion of services could include telecommunications towers, small cell units and fiber optic communications cable within park grounds. Areas with heavier concentrations of visitors could find themselves hosting larger tower and more extensive, or revamped, networking. Any decisions must fall within rules established by both the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.
