Tech Wars: Apple and Ericsson Approach ITC To Ban Each Other’s Products

Apple is raising the stakes in its ligation with Ericsson. Mobile World Live reported that the iPhone manufacturer is pressing the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to ban imports of the Swedish manufacturer’s mobile infrastructure equipment. This move comes after Ericsson initiated another round of litigation covering a total of 12 5G patents and asking the ITC to ban iPhones.

Apple claims that if the ITC agrees with its request, the patent infringement based on Ericsson’s mmWave antenna radios and baseband units would be a nonstarter. According to Apple, base stations are available through Nokia and Samsung.

The U.S. manufacturer said it’s willing to drop its suits if Ericsson does the same, reported Mobile World Live. According to Investment bank Raymond James and Associates, Apple would owe Ericsson between $200 – $300 million per year based on the claims.
