The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for the following two documents:

TIA-455-82-C titled “Fluid Penetration Test for Fluid-Blocked Fiber Optic Cable.”

This document will revise ANSI/TIA-455-82-B to update the default test length for water penetration samples to 1m to 3m, update the sample length for retest for 3m to 40m, consider the impact of the length on test duration and update the treatment of dry water blocked cable.

TIA-598-E titled “Optical Fiber, Cable, and Component Color Coding.”

This document will revise ANSI/TIA-598-D to incorporate two addendums including additional colors for Fibers 13-16 and jacket color for OM5 indoor fiber cables while also incorporating and enhancing connector and adapter identification from ANSI/TIA-568.3-3 to broaden the scope to include cabling architectures utilizing a variety of elements, marking updates and possible reorganization of content.

TIA is actively seeking participation in this project from the user and general interest communities.

Stakeholders may include but are not limited to: users of optical fiber such as optical fiber cable manufacturers and their customers, optical fiber transmission and test equipment manufacturers, specifiers of optical fiber and cable such as telecommunications companies and standards bodies that define transmission protocols.

For more information about TR- 42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact the Standards Department at standards@tiaonline.org. A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. Recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee are available on TIA’s public engineering committee pages.
