UPDATE The Stone County Board of Supervisors gave their OK to a cell tower proposed by Tillman Infrastructure over the objections of competitor SBA last Monday, according to the Stone County Enterprise.

The site plan for the tower at the intersection of Hwy 26 and City Bridge Road was withheld from public view. This caused a protest from SBA’s representative Christian Strickland, who asked the Board two weeks ago to postpone their consent for the tower and questioned whether the county had been forthcoming in providing requested documents.

“My client requested to review the site plan to make sure it complies and comports with applicable law,” Strickland said Monday. “The Public Records Act compels the county to provide that information.”

Mike Graves, an attorney representing Tillman, responded to the SBA protest saying, “SBA is not an adjoining property owner and is objecting solely to maintain a monopoly in that area,” he told the Enterprise. “This is nothing but an attempt to delay approval of this project.”

An attorney representing the Board, Scott Gibson, said SBA had not made its request in a timely fashion and the county had practiced due diligence in maintaining and making the records available.

Jeff White, the site’s property owner, said, “I would like the board to move forward so we can do what we want on land we own, free and clear,” he said. “Nobody objected when SBA built a tower on the edge of our property, in fact, we welcomed it because we got better cell phone signal,” the Enterprise reported.  Comments?
