A consortium of global tech firms officially launched the Tower Automation Alliance, a partnership to drive automation for telecom towers. The focus of the group is to develop automation projects for towercos and MNOs to develop their digital transformation. The partnership of vendors, tech companies and consultants, began meeting in late 2020, to discuss various strategies for driving tower automation worldwide. With the forming of the TAA, the association claims it now has more than 100 innovators and specialists working together to leverage technology to automate several passive infrastructure operations for towercos and network operators.

“Digitization gives visibility to the tower conditions, improves compliance with regulations and shows what is really on a tower without having to do a site visit or tower climb,” noted Vitali Kleban, CTO and Founder of Everynet. “Tower automation enables new services and revenue streams. Digitization also gives visibility to the tower conditions, improves compliance with regulations and shows what is really on a tower without having to do a site visit or tower climb.”

Among the founding partners of the Tower Automation Alliance are Everynet, a leading LoRaWAN® network provider, autonomous drone inspection software company, vHive, Outlocks, an LED smart access control company and Atrebo, a specialist in telco infrastructure management.

The alliance is taking its first steps in describing the initial use cases of automation of infrastructure, covering areas such as digital twin, access management, infrastructure security, green energy and business intelligence, among other explored areas. As part of their collaborative work, its members have already developed and implemented a combined access management prototype solution for a leading operator in South America, and are in conversations to start testing different integrated solutions with several tower companies across Europe.

As part of the roadmap for the TAA, partners are also directing their efforts to developing a comprehensive specification for the foundation of the next generation infrastructure operations, with the use of IoT network devices, artificial intelligence and an open software, underpinned by the 5G revolution. In this era that requires seamless connectivity, automation projects are a critical part of telecom infrastructure management, ultimately resulting in better network capabilities for operators and end-to-end customer service.

“We’re an alliance open to any MNO, towerco or service provider that is eager to participate in the discussion about the needs and requirements to take telecommunication towers to the next level,” Luis Del Valle – Chief Revenue Officer for Atrebo said. “We are ready to lead telcos on their way to the future.”

TAA is a cost-free partnership, with no fees deriving from application or membership.
