When the National Wireless Safety Alliance (NWSA) was awarded accreditation by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) in June of 2020 for its Tower Technician Training programs, then-FCC Chairman Ajit Pai lauded it as “critical to deploying wireless networks safely and efficiently.” As training starts to ramp up, some areas are underserved with qualified venues.

With 33 test sites around the country, most concentrated in the western region, only a handful of locations are offering training along the eastern seaboard. Turnkey Safety Solutions, is one of those few and is hosting a NWSA PEAP Workshop, March 30-April 1, 2021. Located in Denville, NJ, it is the only known exam site between Massachusetts and North Carolina.

The vet-owned facility, founded and operated by James Weiss, has expanded its indoor training facility to accommodate the anticipated glut of trainees. Weiss said they now have two towers to help deliver the Practical Exam Test. NWSA-certified personnel who have been trained and authorized by NWSA will administer the programs.

With the capacity for eight trainees, Turnkey has already booked four students as other sites around the U.S, have reached capacity. “We have the only four available in the whole country,” Weiss told Inside Towers. The workshop costs $2,000 per person. “The toughest part,” he said, “is meeting the requirements which means they have three years experience and have their resume approved,” Weiss said.

NWSA-accredited Practical Examiners are NWSA-certified personnel who have been trained and authorized by NWSA to administer the practical examinations for NWSA certification programs. In order to become an NWSA- accredited Practical Examiner, you must:

  • Be certified by NWSA in both certification designations (TTT-1 and TTT-2);
  • Have three (3) years of industry-related experience;
  • Attend a NWSA Practical Examiner Accreditation Workshop, during which your performance as a Practical Examiner will be observed and evaluated;
  • Pass a Practical Examiner Accreditation Program (PEAP) Workshop written exam testing your knowledge of the role of the Practical Examiner and the test administration process;
  • Pass the practical exam(s) in the presence of an NWSA representative (even if currently certified); and
  • Have a direct email address to receive email notifications from NWSA (this may not be a shared address).

Individuals interested in participating in the NWSA PEAP Workshop in New Jersey should contact James Weiss at James@turnkeysafetyllc.com or 732-798-4945. The deadline to register for a workshop is two weeks prior to the first day of the scheduled event.
