Over the weekend, the Coos County (OR) Sheriff’s Department reported that vandals cut the guy wires on a 150-foot tower, causing it to topple. The act of “Criminal Mischief” created over $60,000 in damages, reported Fire Chief. The tower is located on Coos Mountain off BLM 26-10-27 1 Road.

The Coos County (OR) Sheriff said the tower is used for emergency communication for loggers, fire personnel and ham radio operators and is an integral piece of infrastructure in the region, especially with the onset of fire season. Loss of this capability, the Sheriff said, “is dangerous to responders, and could greatly impact logging and firefighting operations.”

The Sheriff’s office is offering a reward for the identification and conviction of the parties responsible for committing the Class C-Felony, according to a department press release. “Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to call Sergeant Floyd at 541-396-7814 or the Coos County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 396-7830,” the release stated.
