A 140-foot Verizon tower previously approved for construction is now under appeal in North Canton, OH. The North Canton Planning Commission previously approved installation of the tower, but on January 9, the Montabella Home Owners Association filed an appeal of the conditional use permit for the tower. The appeal will be heard by the Zoning & Building Standards Board of Appeals at an undetermined date. Homeowners are worried the new tower will cause a decrease in property values. The Canton Rep said this is the second time the tower has been appealed. After an appeal late last year, it was discovered the Planning Commission approved the variance incorrectly. The new tower is needed because current Verizon equipment in the area has been overloaded.

The zoning board is not expected to hear the appeal until February or March. ood River, OR Officials Wrestle With New Tower Rules, Braden, County officials are trying to establish rules for cell tower placement in Hood River, OR. Rules crafted by experts last summer were going to be reviewed at a hearing on January 19, but AT&T asked for an extension to suggest changes to the regulations that would conflict with federal laws. The regulations will now be reviewed on February 16. Hood River County Commissioners granted the request of AT&T representatives at the hearing last week, and noted the special committee had not noticed the potential conflict before it was brought to their attention. Will Carey, county legal counsel, told the Hood River News, “We don’t do strictly AT&T business for a living so when we look at this ordinance that was structured by the best we could get in Hood River County we thought we did a remarkable job.”

Commissioners are drafting regulations to ensure no tower will interfere with the scenic views commonly found in the county, especially around the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The Columbia River is the second longest river in North America, and visitors flock to the picturesque area each year.
