Disabled U.S. Air Force veteran Rodney Ballance, Jr., announced he’s partnered with a group of investors to create Patriot Broadband, LLC. The Branson, MO-based company uses, “a hybrid fixed wireless and fiber optic” model to offer broadband to rural America.

Nearly 40 percent of rural areas don’t have access to the minimal standard for broadband internet, according to the FCC. Patriot Broadband is offering people who live in areas without minimal broadband service to purchase a franchise and have the group help them install a broadband connection for their communities.

Franchisees will then install service to residential and business customers within their territory. “Using advanced fiber optics and radio wave frequency, a strong and fast signal is delivered to customers through small routers and transmitters,” said Balance. “We can’t wait on government to fix this, and it’s not profitable enough for large corporations,” he added.

Preferential treatment will be given to fellow veterans who have the desire to own a franchise, according to Ballance. In addition, Patriot Broadband pledged to donate a portion of every dollar earned to the Wounded Warrior Project.  Comments? Email Us.
